Anthology – Enliven Your Personal Essay: A Writer’s Workshop with Patrice Gaines

Are you a budding writer in the spiritual space, or do you have a powerful experience you have wanted to share? If so, this may be the writer’s workshop you have been waiting for. Instructed by award-winning writer and author Patrice Gaines, this workshop will help you hone a professional essay in an intimate setting. All participants will have the opportunity to have their essay included in an anthology, ‘Spiritually Profound Experiences’ (working title), planned for publication this fall.

One of the challenges of writing is getting feedback. This workshop includes the opportunity to have your essay reviewed with feedback provided. This is invaluable and can help you hone your essay and improve your writing skill.   The cost is $50.00 and includes the workshop, content editing and feedback, and the opportunity to include your essay in the Anthology.

About Patrice

Patrice Gaines is an author, creative writing coach, and writing instructor.

Her autobiography Laughing in the Dark details her journey from heroin user, convicted felon, and abused woman to award-winning journalist and good mother. She is also the author of Moments of Grace, which outlines her path to changing her own life. Most recently, she co-authored Say Their Names: How Black Lives Came to Matter in America, which details the inequities faced by Black Americans that led to protests after the murder of George Floyd.

She studied fiction in the MFA programs both at the University of Michigan and Warren Wilson College.

Patrice was a reporter at the Washington Post for 16 years and a member of a team that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She has received prestigious writing residencies at both Yaddo and MacDowell artists’ communities.

Patrice has written for National Public Radio, Essence, the New York Times magazine, and numerous other publications.
